Are you a professional dad and too busy for your kids?

... “Well,” I thought. “The day couldn’t get worse.”

“Now, tell us what you would say to the President of Nigeria if you met him today.”

I knew the answer to this one. My father and I discussed political news every day during dinner. A week earlier, my father had asked me if a President was right to not pay attention to the problems of people from his own tribe than from other tribes.

“Yes, I said.” He is everyone’s president. He has to move the whole country forward.

Now, standing here before the panel, that was all I could think about.

“I would ask him how he manages to keep a national view of issues, despite pressures from his kinsmen, the Yoruba people.” I said.

“I would ask him how he manages to keep a national view of issues, despite pressures from his kinsmen, the Yoruba people.” I said.

It was the best answer in the room that morning and I knew whatever this was for, I had won. It was enough to brighten my day. We were asked to wait outside and a few minutes later, I was called in.

“Toyosi, you have been selected to meet with the President of Nigeria.”

I meant to scream in excitement, but my body did not respond. I was shocked with joy, grinning so widely that my eyes were squinted thin and my cheeks ached afterwards.
