If you are a professional athlete or perform any sports activity, such as a physical trainer or professional coach, for example, the Normative Resolution 47 is the law that regulates the granting of a visa and residence permit for your activities in Brazil.

?What is NR 47/2022?

The Normative Resolution 47/2022 prepared by the National Immigration Council (CNIg) deals with the granting of a residence permit for work purposes, with an employment relationship in Brazil, for performing sporting activities in general.

This rule revoked the NR 21, allowing foreign national professional athletes who intend to work in Brazil to obtain a residence permit in the country for up to five years, which may be renewed.

Likewise, the new regulation also includes other professionals who work in the sports area.

What activities are covered?

The NR 47 deals with any and all professionals who perform activities related to the sports area, which includes professional athletes of any category, sports coach, physical trainer, athlete trainer, professional football coach and other professionals belonging to the same occupational family.

How to apply?

In these cases, the authorization request will be made to the migratory agency through the residence authorization process.

What is the residency period?

The expected period of residence varies according to the applicant's activity. In general, foreign national professionals who carry out sports activities can stay in the country for up to two years, renewable.
