Are you procrastinating?

Are you procrastinating?

A common challenge my coaching clients and course students regularly bring to me is "procrastination". And this happens within various contexts: some are starting a business; some have just moved to a new country; some are preparing to sit for a difficult exam or enter a competition.

But they all have a common challenge: They are mentally stuck. They are procrastinating on doing the very tasks that can get them the results they badly want. Why? Because (deep down inside) they are thinking, "Why all the effort? I'm not going to succeed anyway."

First of all, it makes sense that you have this fear. Anybody in your situation would feel that way. But today I'm going to teach you how you can overcome this fear of failure. Think about the following three questions very carefully and you will see how powerful this technique is:

1- Question number one, “What is the worst that can happen to you? What is the worst case scenario that may happen if you go for your dream?” Let's say you want to start that business: What is the worst thing that can happen? For example, you may think that you may start that business, and you invest all of your money, you even borrow some money from your family members or the bank. But after a year, you lose all your money, you go bankrupt, your relationship with your spouse suffers ..... and after a few months, you get a divorce and you end up living on the streets, homeless.

I know that's a bit ridiculous but that's a possible scenario, right? But how possible is that? We can all agree that it's not likely because you may reverse the whole thing at some point in the process. For example, after a year you see that you're losing money in your business, you can stop there, right? You can stop the damage at any point. Or if you see that you're having trouble in your relationship with your wife, you can stop at some point and get some marriage counseling and so on and so forth. So the worst case scenario is possible but it's not very likely.

2- Question number two, “What's the best thing that can happen to you? The best case scenario, the ridiculously good thing that may happen to you if you go for your dream.” Again as an example, you may start that business, after a year in business, you start earning a million dollars a year and then the CEO of amazon, Jeff Bezos, approaches you and acquires your business for a hundred million dollars. And then you exit the business, you go to Hawaii, and you spend the rest of your life looking at the beach. I know that's a bit ridiculous too. The question is how possible is that? Again, it is possible but not very likely, don't you agree?

3- Now the third question, which is the most important question, is this: Now that you have explored the worst case scenario and the best case scenario and you have thought about the two extremes, “What is the likely scenario? What is the most probable scenario that may happen if you go for your dream?” Again as an example, if you start that business the most probable scenario is that, you will spend two or three years struggling, trying to figure things out, you may lose a bit of money here and you might earn a bit of money over there. But eventually if you're persistent and consistent enough, you will find a way to get clients, grow your business and be successful in the end.

Always FACE YOUR FEAR. Ask yourself: What's the worst that can happen? And work through it just like I showed you above. That will relieve a lot of your stress.

Your thoughts?!
