Are You Prioritizing Your Well-Being? My Burnout Story
Dorian Jones
Driving you to cultivate stronger beliefs, habits, and mindsets that enhance your well-being, foster personal development, and support lifelong learning and growth for a better quality of life.
I started to write this as a post, but more people than myself may be dealing with this. Whether you're in corporate, a side hustler, a content creator, an entrepreneur, an aspiring entrepreneur, or somewhere in between, I think we can all relate to what you're about to read.
Backstory
Here's the short version. I left my career of 12 years in the telecommunications industry in 2020, the beginning of the pandemic. It was already in the works, but I used COVID as an opportunity to accelerate that plan. Before the pandemic, I had become depressed and had felt like I hit a glass ceiling in my current environment and was ready for a change. During the last year of working, I was depressed and I didn't realize it until 5 months into it. Once I did realize that it was depression that had been showering over me, I did a lot of self-work which led me to discover my passion and purpose to help others who may be at a similar point in their life and don't know the next step to take.
So there I was, in May of 2020 on my way to "The Dream" of being a full-time entrepreneur, not knowing what this next phase of my life had in store, but I was up for any new challenges that I was sure would force me to grow into the person I've always wanted to be. I did make sure that my income was replaced before leaving, I was speaking, and coaching, and I had started my podcast along with my online course. I took control of my retirement and made investments that more than tripled during the pandemic, I was off to a great start.
The Twist
Fast forward to 2023, this has been my most challenging year. I've faced countless moments of uncertainty, burnout, and even temporary moments of depression. The cycle of constantly putting out content, and staying up-to-date with the latest trends online becomes a lot, on top of everyday life. I feel like I've hit some of my lowest moments in a lot of aspects of my life this year, but I've been able to overcome all adversities that have been presented to me, so that proof along with the small wins that are often overlooked have kept me going. I've gotten out of my way, blocked out the self-limiting beliefs, and put my focus on what's to come, not what has passed.

I am a firm believer that we are only presented with challenges that are meant to build us into the person that we'd like to become. It develops your character, habits, beliefs, and strengths to make sure you can handle what's to come. I gave myself permission to take a moment and breathe, dedicate time to myself and my well-being, and reconnect with the person in the mirror because I've felt disconnected, I've lost myself amid "The Grind". As humans, we are meant to thrive, and recently I've just been surviving. It's time for me to evolve into the person who has been trying to force their way out for a while now, but I was so distracted with undesirables that I didn't highlight "My Greatness Within" that I remind listeners of every week on my podcast.
Conclusion
As I close this out I want to send encouraging words to anyone going through something similar to never give up. Don't be afraid to start over, it's never too late to do anything new. If you are attempting to improve your life in any form, it will be challenging, but keep going, because the big problems become small problems. As humans, we are a never-ending project, something not going your way isn't the end of the world, it may be a re-direction that you may not appreciate until later. Do your best to remove your emotions from the things you can't control, it'll save you a tremendous amount of stress and frustration.
If you struggle with confidence, want to build better habits, or shift your mindset, I do offer coaching and have a podcast that I release regularly and has over 250 episodes. You can join my email list as well where I regularly send out motivational and personal development tips to help you on your journey.

1 年Super relatable Dorian Jones especially the “dream†of being a solo entrepreneur. I think we all spend so much time trying to figure out the “right†way to do this thing when really there is no right way, just YOUR way. Thanks for being so transparent in this post!
