Are you present when you eat? Stupid question, of course I am. I can't get someone else to eat for me?
Now that's an interesting concept! If that was possible would you make them eat the way you do? Would allow them them to eat the rubbish you may be eating every day?
Being "present" whilst you eat means taking time to stop, consider what you're eating and taking time out to enjoy what you're eating.
Why is this important? It's all about nutrients and nutrient absorption.
We know that digestion starts in the mouth and ends up with elimination. During this process our body absorbs nutrients (mainly from the process of moving food from the stomach to the small intestine). Nutrients include vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates and protein. These nutrients all take varying amounts of time to get broken down before being absorbed into the bloodstream.
Being present whilst we eat is about taking time to:
- shop for healthier food options
- prepare what you're going to eat
- plan time to eat

- think about what you're eating
- think about why you're eating it and the benefit to your body
- take time out of the daily rat race that we find ourselves in
- allow our body to absorb the key nutrients and use them effectively
- be grateful for the food we're eating
- fall back in love with food
Not being present and eating on the run, visiting the closest fast-food outlet or grabbing that meal deal and eating whilst driving to your next appointment will zap you of energy. It will make you feel lethargic, you'll feel bloated and inevitably you'll be wanting your next intake of food (food-fix) sooner. You WON'T be absorbing what you need and you'll never enjoy what you eat.

2 年I love this ?? As someone who is in recovery from an eating disorder, becoming present with not just my food but my choices in food is necessary. I allow myself tyke rule if 80/20 and to be present more often than not 80% of the time. My humanness can creep in, then I'm kind to myself and make a different choice. Great Post Ken Critcher ????
