Are you prepared for Christmas?

Are you prepared for Christmas?

Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way.

The year’s highlight event is approaching fast. Have you already booked your venue and planned the Christmas party? If not, then let us come to your rescue as the clock is ticking….

Corporate parties are often considered to be exclusive to staff and corporate clients. It doesn’t have to be that way. Why don’t you break the mould and I’ll share with you tips and ideas of how you can create an inclusive Christmas party that everyone talks about until next year!.

What is your theme?

Naturally the theme is Christmas but why don't you consider making it more relaxed and unique. How about a family Christmas? Invite everyones partners and children to join, you already have Santa there don’t you? You could also decorate the venue in a traditional Christmas style. Your staff certainly would be happy to see that you appreciate them and their families. Alternatively, there are so many other themes to consider; Winter Wonderland, Apres Ski, Narnia or even turn it on its head and have an Australian Summer Party?

Where to hold the event?

Are you going to the same place as usual this year? I would suggest you try out a new venue and one where you can sense the Christmas spirit. Why not consider having a venue that gives a view to nature instead of a concrete jungle. These are definitely things worth thinking about , a wonderful scenic venue and location will help to activate everyone's festive imagination, not to mention the relaxing effect it will have on everyone once the days work is done.

What program to have?

Traditionally there’s award ceremonies where the employee of the year is announced and some speeches. Why not offer something different and unique? This year as an addition you could co-ordinate carol singing and/or exchange presents. Try some fun games that everyone can participate in. There’s nothing better than the feeling of togetherness and it’s a great way for staff to bond outside of the office environment.

What do I serve?

It’s important to take into account special diets and allergies. You could raise it as a topic in your morning meeting, by brainstorming with your staff and getting others involved it's a great way to show you care and value what they think.

How can everyone get to the venue?

Clear instructions and coming up with transportation is important but maybe the people who live in the same area can car share? You could look to treat your staff to an overnight stay or offer a contribution towards this. Or hire a minibus or coach that picks people from the agreed location i.e office, city centre or popular landmark. It’s an investment worth making to have happy employees.

Finding the right venue and planning the event can be stressful alongside doing the work on your day job, but the good news is that you don’t have to do everything alone. A professional venue finder can find you the best options and deals for the room, the food, beverage and overnight accommodation if you need it. They should also be able to give you all the support you need including your event planning, preparation and providing support to execute the event.

It’s not too late to create an unforgettable Christmas party for your staff and this will in turn show how you value your employees, a fundamental priority in running any business.

What’s the best corporate Christmas party you’ve been to? What made it special? I’d love to hear your stories and experiences.

One of the most impressive stories I’ve heard came from one of my valued connections and friend. A childhood memory from a time her mother worked as Secretary in the army. They arranged a Christmas party where children were also present. A true show of appreciation for their employees and family values.
