LAYOFFS: As we head to 2024, 92% of employers are expecting additional headcount cuts, according to Randstad RiseSmart . And most organizations, the survey found, are not prepared to help their workforces manage those cuts. ?
"Many companies over-hired after the pandemic when the economy had really softened, and now they're sort of left in this challenging position of needing to make some changes to their operating expenses which often comes in the form of layoffs," says Lindsay Witcher , senior vice president of Randstad RiseSmart.?If you are planning layoffs, here's now to prepare right now:
HEALTH AND WELLNESS: It's universally acknowledged that sitting at a desk and staring at a computer for eight hours a day is not good for your body — but there are certain habits that add even more aches to your workday.?
"For instance, a heavy bag you sling over the top of your shoulder can put a lot of pressure on a small joint," says Mallory Behenna , an orthopedic physical therapist at Florida-based Brooks Rehabilitation . "A really wide keyboard may [force] your elbows away from your body, making your arm muscles work harder to hold your arms in position."
