I am a big proponent of less staff that perform better and get paid better. I am an admirer of anyone who can build a results orientated and customer-centric team. I am also a passionate marketer and sales person. That is why I still don't understand why most companies hire the internal marketing staff that they do.
So let's be clear... I believe every company needs their marketing managed and they need professional marketing assistance. I just think there are a lot of very specialized and amazingly talented marketing professionals out there now for almost every possible need, campaign or project you want to take on. The really good ones work for themselves and they charge more because they do the work in less than half the time and with far better results. They will not waste time and they pride themselves on results. They are ROI driven, analytics conscientious and understand the nuances of well crafted and designed marketing campaigns and digital advertising. They usually also have a network of associates that they can tap into to help complete complex projects requiring multiple marketing and advertising disciplines.
You can hire one person to take on the gamut of the marketing tasks that your business requires but there is no way you can expect that single person to excel at it all. It is often cheaper and far better to tap into a network of professionals to support your business and pay for the professionals that you need when you need them. It's just my thought for the day.
