You pay attention to what you measure...

You pay attention to what you measure...

So, be thoughtful about what you choose to measure.

When it comes to setting goals or benchmarks, are you choosing what's easy to measure or what's meaningful to measure?

Easy can be, well, easy...but not necessarily what you need to keep you moving forward, making change and positive impact.

Choosing meaningful things to measure takes time and thoughtfulness.

  • What is the purpose of your program or project?
  • Thinking with the end in mind, where do you want to be? What do you want to achieve?
  • What will help you understand your progress?
  • Who do you need to include in developing your measures? Who are all of the voices that need to be heard?

While it's true that a number of items are not necessarily hard to measure...it begs the question...are you measuring the right things?

It's never to late to reassess and pivot or adjust. In fact, it's a sign of success if you are asking questions and checking in. If you run an assessment and you aren't where you thought you would be OR you are going in the wrong direction, perhaps it's your measures (or lack thereof) that are putting you and your team in that situation.

Is it sometimes scary to take that deeper dive? Sure.

Can it be anxiety provoking, being afraid of what you mind find in your assessment? Definitely.

However, taking time to dive in, ask more questions and really put your measures to the test can only benefit you, your team, your projects and your clients in the long run.

The new dawn blooms
As we free it.
For there is always light,
If only we're brave enough to see it.
If only we're brave enough to be it.
