You Are A Part Of The WHY Family

As we enter the holiday season, people look to reuniting with family members. But did you know you have two families? The first one is your biological family. The second one is your WHY family. We all know about the first one but most of us do not know about the second one.

Just as it is important to know where you fit in to your birth family, it is also important to know where you fit in with your WHY family. There are nine WHYs and each of us has one. When we know our WHY, we know where we fit into the family and the unique gift we bring to our WHY family and to the world.

When I discovered my WHY, I was so overjoyed and felt such a part of the WHY family, I wanted to come up with a way to express what I was feeling. I call it The Nine WHYs in the Kitchen.

Better Way had come up with a better way to make pasta and could not wait to share it with all of her friends. So, she invited the other 8 WHYs over to do exactly that.

The first to arrive was Contribute who loved the idea and immediately inquired as to how he could make a difference for the other WHYs who would be arriving soon.

The next guest to arrive was Clarify who started to ask question after question. Better Way was feeling frustrated by all the questions. Well, at least until Mastery showed up.

Now Mastery had been making pasta for years and had even won several cooking awards for boiling pasta. Better Way thought Mastery would surely understand her pasta cooking breakthrough. Unfortunately, all Mastery could do was to encourage Better Way to keep getting better at cooking pasta.

Just then Challenge walked in and began to challenge the whole concept of making pasta by boiling water. Better Way felt a momentary sigh of relief as Trust entered the kitchen. But alas Trust could offer no real support about Better Way’s better way of cooking pasta. However, she did thank Better Way for trusting her enough to invite her.

Right Way was next to arrive and made it clear that there was already a right way to cook pasta and failed to see the significance of Better Way’s better way. Surely Simplify would be supportive because cooking pasta was a simple process already. But Simplify commented that Better Way’s new process was simply too complicated.

For some reason, Make Sense arrived late. Better Way was sure that Make Sense would save the day and the get-together. Make Sense apologized for being late and asked each of the WHYs to share their thoughts on Better Way’s better way.

She listened intently as each WHY shared their assessment. As an experienced student of the 9 WHYs, Make Sense understood that each WHY’s perspective was uniquely their own and that each offered value to the other.

And one by one, each of the WHYs began to understand the value and necessity of each of the other WHYs. They all agreed that Better Way’s real better way was to create a beautiful space where each could feel valued and appreciated. Better Way had created a better way for each WHY to understand and be understood by the others. In their collective joy they decided to call themselves The WHY Society. And now they share this beautiful way of seeing themselves, and each other, with everyone they meet.
