I am a product of the Pac-Man and Monopoly generation. How about you? Many of us grew up as Pacman or Monopoly players? Once you started playing it was difficult to just stop, and the idea of being the winner and the controlling factor was there. Besides a game, it is a way in which we tend to live our daily lives. This is especially true in the ever-evolving business world. Depending what the focus at hand is it may be to seize the moment and make an impact, or to obtain control (as a small elite group or singularly with your own power). It has evolved in business and adulthood into the development of oligarchies and monopolies.
Who or What is an Oligarchy Today?
Definition of an oligarchy is a small group of people having control of a country, organization, or institution. For our business purposes, we are using a Tech Oligarchy example today. Durov, Musk and Zuckerberg are tech oligarchs who are well-noted. They like to change the rules and create multiple effects. Today’s news spread that Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg has announced the content on Facebook, Instagram and Threads will no longer be reviewed by a third party. Were you aware all three of the medias we use daily are under the guise of one person? ?Sometimes that fact is put to the wayside. The effect it will have on those in the marketing and social media world will see the differences as putting out their completed work. ?How many other oligarchies can you identify that affect you daily?

How Does a Monopoly Affect Our Lives?
A monopoly in business is defined as an exclusive control of a particular market that is marked by the power to control prices and exclude competition. ?(I have seen and played individuals who take the Monopoly game too seriously. Sometimes it is just the roll of the dice, and other times it's strategy.) Business owners put themselves, their products, and services out there daily and ward against market monopoly situations. Search engines and cable companies come to mind as an example. Where else have you noticed monopolies in daily life?
An Entrepreneurial Hat Bow to the Pac-Man Rule
There are always exceptions to the rule. That is in the Pac-Man Rule itself. For example: At conferences, stand as a group of people, but always leave room for 1 person to join your group. If entrepreneurs stay true to that idea in the marketplace we will continue to have diverse product and service options, as well as creative insight available. The business world is a fluid and dynamic environment. Resist the overbearing oligarchies and monopolies. I choose the Pac.
