Psychometrics is a field of study concerned with the theory and technique of psychological measurement.

What is the different type of profiles where psychometric assessments are being used especially in India?

  1. First time managers-

When people get promoted and move on to managerial roles it becomes very important to measure the areas where they need to work on. India is now becoming a leader in first-time managers' positions as there's a number of new companies and new talent which is getting developed

2. Sales professionals-

Sales had always been close to my heart. The number of sales hires is high in some companies but there is a similar case with attrition rate.

There are two major kinds of sales roles. 

Individual sales contributors (IC's) and sales team managers.

In both, the roles require different sets of competencies are required to measure.

3. Psychometric/ Behavioral assessments for freshers -

When companies start hiring from campuses. Either they assess them on their cognitive abilities or functional skills. But to see if the candidates match your company's core competencies it's important to measure their psychometric traits.

4. Leadership - Generally psychometric assessment which is made for leadership profiles is very comprehensive and premium as compared to others.

Things to keep in mind while evaluating psychometric tool/vendors-

You can either opt for standard tools of different companies i.e ready-made psychometric tools or you can ask the assessment partner to develop a new tool and questioner for your company.

You should ask for a new assessment only if you think that standard Assessments are not matching the competencies required for the given job role.

Validity and reliability are the two most important things when choosing a psychometric tool.
