In this article, I’m going to give you the inside information and bring you up to par on 6 of Columbia’s top-rated golf courses.

#1 Cobblestone Park Golf Club
According to Golfpass.com, the Black Course at Cobblestone Park Golf Club is ranked number 1 in the Columbia area and has a 5-star rating. This public course is located in Blythewood, which is located just 18 miles or about 20 minutes north of Columbia. Formerly known as the University Club, this course has a total of 27 holes which are divided into 3 distinct nines that stretch across 240 acres of rolling hills.1 The Black Nine is the longest and most challenging course of the three. All the courses’ high hills provide a great view of the area, and with majestic oak and pine trees, it offers beautiful scenic views throughout your round.?

#2 Golden Hills Country Club
With a 4.3-star rating and 93.6% of participants who recommend this course, the Golden Hills Country Club is ranked number 2 for the Columbia area. This 18-hole, semi-private championship course offers beautiful trees and lakes and is set in the heart of Lexington, which is located west of Columbia. Other amenities at the country club include four lighted tennis courts, an outdoor Junior Olympic pool, a children’s wading pool, a driving range, a chipping area, a putting green, a clubhouse with banquet facilities, a Scottish tavern, a golf shop, and locker rooms.2

#3 LinRick Golf Course
The number 3 rated golf course is LinRick Golf Course located in the heart of Columbia. This public course has a solid 4-star rating on Golfpass.com and is recommended by 95% of participants. Reviewers have described this 18-hole course as both challenging and fun. The course’s 257 acres of green features eight ponds and rolling hills.

#4 The Windermere Club
The Windermere Club private golf course is the only course in the Midlands that was designed by Pete Dye who was considered the “Picasso of golf course design.”3 Dye was known for designing challenging courses, and the Windermere Club course doesn’t fall short of that. No two holes are alike in this challenging layout that has a variety of risk-reward opportunities. This 18-hole course offers different tee positions, subtle elevation changes, and fairways bordered by hardwood trees and several lakes and ponds. If you’re up for a challenge, you can go to Blythewood to enjoy this course.

#5 Northwoods Golf Club
Northwoods Golf Club is one of Columbia’s premier public courses. Located in northeast Columbia, it is ranked fifth from the top. Pete Dye’s son, P.B. Dye, designed the layout and included some of his father's signature features. The Northwoods course appeals to any skill level but also presents some challenges. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers. The golf course's signature hole features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green.1 But this course isn’t so challenging that beginners can’t swing with confidence.

#6 Timberlake Golf Course
Located in Chapin on Lake Murray, Timberlake is a semi-private course that is scenic but challenging and ranks number 6 in Columbia. This course has a classic design reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses with rolling hills that provide golfers with a view of the rugged landscape. This golf course is mostly open, but a few strands of mature trees can present challenges, as well as the cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding that will test even advanced golfers. Timberlake also features amenities including a driving range, a practice green, tennis courts, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
