Are You an Overachiever?

Are You an Overachiever?

Over 50% of Americans are unhappy at work, including successful entrepreneurs, real estate professionals, and C-suite executives.

The source of discontent stems from their pursuit of tangible happiness.?Their happiness is measured by money, status, and achievements.?If they are not making significant progress with visible accomplishments, they begin to question their self-worth.

Regardless of their age, overachievers are lifelong learners, who continue going to school to earn degrees and certifications to get promotions and titles for status and power.

This pursuit of happiness causes overachievers to lack a deeper understanding of themselves.?When they don’t get the promotion or they don’t close the deal, they feel a deep sense of regret and defeat. Leaving them to struggle with their mental health.

The 5 Ways Overachievers Sabotage Their Life

1.??????Believing Success is Measurable.?

Although money and status are benchmarks to career success, they are only outward signs of achievement.?It is common to see rich people, who are unhappy because they struggle with anxiety, sleep deprivation, personal problems, relationship issues, stress, anxiety, or depression.

2.??????Being Perfectionists.?

Most overachievers are perfectionists, which causes them to fear failure. It terrifies overachievers to make decisions or execute goals or projects if they fear they will fail.?This fear leads to overthinking and missing out on opportunities.

3.??????Being People Pleasers.?

Overachievers look self-sufficient and confident but deep down within, they crave validation.?They set goals and make purchases that attract attention.?Although they act as if opinions don’t matter, they find self-acceptance by what others think about them.?

4.??????Lacking Empathy.?

Overachievers do not accept excuses.?They lack understanding when someone misses a deadline due to personal issues.?The pressure they put on others and themselves begins to take a toll on them mentally and emotionally.

5.??????Believing Time is Urgent.?

Overachievers place a high priority on their time.?When someone gives an excuse for being tardy or late to a scheduled meeting or event, they get upset.??

When it comes to their life, their vision has an urgent timeline.?They push themselves to the limit and set continuous goals for themselves.?Even when an overachiever gets a promotion, they are thinking about the next promotion. ??They rarely rest and embrace when they win.

I know these things because I am an overachiever.?I don’t believe the five things above are wrong, but flexibility is critical to your mental health.?Being an overachiever in school is impressive but when you’re over 30, you must redefine success due to life changes.?

When you’re faced with parenting, marital issues, a life-threatening illness, death of a loved one, and financial setbacks, you must accept that life doesn’t have predictable outcomes.?Being flexible about your concept of success and failure and letting go of pleasing others are essential to prevent burn out, anxiety, and depression.?
