Are You Optimizing Your LinkedIn Presence?

Are You Optimizing Your LinkedIn Presence?

To successfully leverage LinkedIn, you must strategically develop your profile's content to attract more and the right traffic.

Here are a few tips to help you angle your LinkedIn content strategy for maximum exposure.

INTENTION

Are you on LinkedIn to network, to find a new job, or to lure new business?

It is essential to keep your goal in mind because you must strategically develop your LinkedIn content to include keywords and offer value of particular interest to your target audience.

TARGET

Don’t use your current job title in the headline, unless your current title is also your future. Instead, create a headline that promotes your expertise and speaks to your industry/customers with the use of targeted keywords.

KEYWORDS

To rank LinkedIn profiles, it appears LinkedIn uses algorithms similar to what search engines like Google, Yahoo, and even YouTube uses.

What are Keywords?

According to MOZ.com: “Keywords are ideas and topics that define what your content is about. In terms of SEO, they're the words and phrases that searchers enter into search engines, also called "search queries." If you boil everything on your page — all the images, video, copy, etc. — down to simple words and phrases, those are your primary keywords.” Read more here.

FOCUS

So where should you insert your targeted keywords to support your career or business trajectory? Everywhere—but here are a few key areas of emphasis:

-  The Headline.

-  The first 220 characters in your LinkedIn’s Summary section.

-  Current and past job titles.

-  The description of your current job.

An important point to make here is that LinkedIn’s search results will scale with the reach of your network. Hint, hint.

And, completing your entire profile as much as possible carries significant weight when it comes to search results.

Have a great time optimizing your LinkedIn profile!
