Is it you? Are you the one saying it's going to get better? It's time to act!

Is it you? Are you the one saying it's going to get better? It's time to act!

The rest of the world can't hold you back if they can't reach you.

What's your biggest fear when it comes to moving forward?

  • Being alone?
  • Failing?
  • What people will say?
  • What people will think?
  • The instant loss?
  • The cost?
  • The delayed gratification?

Are you in a relationship and feel like the other person is holding you back?

Are your friends and family holding you back?

Are you stuck in a job that's no longer serving you and holding you back?

Are you reporting to a boss that doesn't have your best interest in mind and is holding you back?

All of these things could be holding you back. Just ask any average person. They'll agree and provide the evidence from their own life to support the belief that the two of you and many others hold in your heart: others are holding us back. And so it goes....because that's where average people get their advice, from other average people.

Makes a lot of sense unless you know better. If you know better, you get your advice from exceptional people. Why? Because they think different.

Exceptional people know something that average people don't know.

Exceptional people know exactly what it is that's holding you back. They also know that the masses of average people can't handle the truth. But, for the few that can, there is hope for a better day, hope for a better year, and hope for a better life.

Hope isn't a strategy, but you need hope to inspire you to develop a strategy.

So what is it? What in the world is holding you back? What is it that the exceptional people know and the average people don't?

Exceptional people know that it's you. Exceptional people know that you are holding yourself back.

The belief that someone else is the problem is the very problem that is holding you back.

What I've found to be true is that most people do not even know an exceptional person. They don't have anyone to throw water on the fire to help them get everything under control. They're surrounded by a bunch of friends, relatives, neighbors, and co-workers that are constantly helping them pour gas on the fire. What happens when you pour gas on the fire? It keeps burning!

So how do you find an exceptional person to help you put water on the fire, so you can stop the burning? You do what exceptional people do.

Exceptional people invest in themselves because they believe in themselves.

The amazing thing is that the minute you take this simple step you have joined the ranks of the few, the proud, the exceptional. This doesn't mean you're better than anyone else on the planet, but it does mean you're about to travel down the road less-traveled. You will have left the well-traveled road to mediocrity behind.

You may have already taken this step and simply need to take another one to move farther down the path. But, most have never invested in their own personal growth and development. There are some that have invested to get a college degree or a certification. If so, they were exceptional at the time. But, if they haven't invested in themselves since, they have rejoined the ranks of the average.

Exceptional people always turn to other exceptional people for help when it's time to move farther down the path, or when they run into an obstacle along the path, or when they come to a fork in the road and are looking for guidance, or when they become stuck in an area of their life.

Exceptional people always show up carrying two buckets of water every time.

Where do you need to create movement in your life?

How do you negotiate the gap between where you are today and where you want to be tomorrow?

Who do you need to walk away from? What people? What job? What company? Not because you're better than the company, or better than the team, or better than your friends, but because you want to go in a very specific direction, and they either want to keep you where you are and how you are or take you in a totally different direction.

What's best for you is for you to decide, not someone else. The sooner you decide, and take action, the better. Make it happen!

Note: If you're still reading, I happen to be married to an extremely exceptional person who shares my passion for helping others be more, do more, and have more. I received the inspiration for this after reading a blog she published titled "Our Deepest Fear" that may also interest you. In it, she also has just announced a new program that she is launching soon to help other exceptional people achieve their goals, their way. So if you're serious about getting serious, this may be the time to make it happen!

Melanie it's all about context. I agree with how you've been looking at it too. I could also write a different lesson in a different context and use your analogy. Both are right in the right context.

In the past I have thought of the "fire" as being an idea, or a goal, or new venture. "Water" has been criticism, negativity, or anyone refuting the idea. Here, "fire" is fear and "water" is help, encouragement, assistance? I really like this article, I have had to clear my mind of these misconceptions.

The people who claim to be optimists and saying "things are going to be better" are those who tend to be absent when things go wrong and not help out others when things go wrong. I can't hear their words, their actions speak too loud for me.
