Are you on one of the 7 Deadly Team Types?

Are you on one of the 7 Deadly Team Types?

There are many different types of teams in the workplace. Some that are highly productive, and hum like a well oiled machine. We like to call them Dream Teams! But there are other types of teams that range from falling short of the dream to being an absolute nightmare. But there is hope, the first step in any recovery is always awareness.

Here are 7 of the Deadly Team Types that we have identified. See if you can recognize whether you fall into one or many of them.

  1. The Executive Team with Big EGO’s and loud voices: This type of team is usually unproductive as either 1 or more of the leaders are fighting for the poll position on the team. The efforts are counterproductive to the growth and movement of the organization and in many cases causes others to retreat and not bring their best ideas forward, either because they won’t be heard or worse, humiliated in front of peers. If you are that type of team or you are one of those types of leaders, the only way things will change in the organization is when you decide to change your approach. We have self awareness tools to recognize where you are in this process and create the transformation needed towards success.
  2. Underperforming Teams: These teams have gaps in strengths, communication and alignment between the why and the what. Building the right communication channels, understanding the strengths of each team member and the tasks that need to be accomplished, then aligning them to the strengths is a great way to turn underperforming teams around. There may also be deeper issues that will be uncovered during the process but it’s a great start to increasing productivity.
  3. Brand New Teams: Sometimes it takes time to gel and understand one another, other times one well crafted workshop can bridge the gaps and align individuals in a team rapidly, collapsing the learning curve and giving everyone an opportunity to contribute at the highest level right away.
  4. Toxic Teams: These are filled with conflict, disengagement and poor execution. Many times it is not because of a lack of talent but there are other issues driving these challenges. We have tools to identify many issues and work on resolving them so the talented individuals can contribute to the success of the company.
  5. Expensive Teams: There may be some systemic issues creating this particular paradigm. Identifying where the hemorrhage is, and gaps in productivity that are creating the issues is where we begin the diagnosis. Sometimes "Fresh Eyes" are what's needed to pinpoint the issues before the right solution can be created.
  6. Teams Struggling with New Leaders: Great business leaders aren’t born that way, they need to learn how to lead effectively, especially in an organization. We have programs to work with new leaders to get them skilled up quickly and running teams effectively, because your business doesn’t have time to waste on figuring things out.
  7. Siloed Communities: This is a culture issue that can be addressed with more integrative opportunities for others in the organization. It is up to you as the leader to set the tone of your organization and carefully plan out how departments and teams interact and integrate with each other. Bringing people together for one common goal of the organization.
