You Never Know

You Never Know

We tend to get so caught up in our destination and we forget to enjoy the ride. The journey is what makes the road trip fun. We don't always know how certain situations will impact our lives down the road. But that doesn't mean avoid hurt, pain, failure, etc. We don't know how a conversation that totally seems random and irrelevant to anything we want to do in life can be useful to us, or someone else.

I was never the coaches' favorite. I don't know why. I was good. I was a hard worker. And quite frankly, I think I was kinda awesome. But, the coach saw it differently. I wasn't a problem kid by any means, but I definitely wasn't the favorite. That means that I had to work for everything! Eh-ver-ree-thing! "Why can't you cut me some slack too?" is what I would often think. Nobody, I mean no-bod-dee could have made me believe that NOT being the coaches' favorite would actually help me later on in life. But because of that, today I work hard for everything. I don't expect anyone to elevate me.  I know how to problem solve. I know how to relate to my players who feel like they should be playing more. *Hint: FORCE the coach to play you by having a superior skill set* And the list goes on.

I attribute most of my success to the fact that I was not the coach's favorite. How is that even possible? Those who I personally train with know... I share my experiences with my players because it shows them that even with the current situation that they think is so bad, they can still reach their goals... I'm an example. I didn't know at the time that I was learning how to persevere, work hard, be diligent, set my own standards, not follow the crowd, etc. I didn't know these things until I had to pull them from my memory bank to help others.
Listen, don't fast forward through the things that seem unimportant. We don't know what will help us down the line. Most of the things that we learn do not come from lesson plans. It's our experiences that is getting us to the next level. Our failures are getting us to the next level. Stepping out of our comfort zone is what's getting us to the next level.

We just never know...
