You never forget your first....

You never forget your first....

My career started with SMAART on May 1st 2013. Since starting, I never really believed the opportunity would grow from starting with a team in Melbourne to growing a new team in Sydney.

1 year ago, today. I packed my life up into 2 containers and moved to Sydney to start SMAART Recruitment’s first interstate branch.

I never dreamed that from meeting in a coffee shop and without a university degree, I would start from a consultant, to becoming a manager in Melbourne. I’ve helped grow sales teams for leading tech start up’s - to working with CEO’s across multiple industries both here in Australia and globally.

The last 12 months have been the most challenging of my career. However, through these challenges have come the greatest rewards of my career.

Together we as a team can celebrate a few things that have been achieved in our short time.

·        SMAART Sydney has worked with 26 new Sydney based businesses

·        We have successfully placed 178 people in new positions

·        We now have a team of 3, growing head count by 200%

·        Became a profitable branch within 9 months

·        As a company won Best Recruitment Brand in Australia 2016

Milestones, while still young, we must relish, and continue to grow with. That I am confident we will continue to do.

The experience of starting in a new city is humbling. I can only liken it to my first day at school; where learning is constant and challenge is overcome and not allowed to be overwhelming.

Over the coming months I will be writing some thoughts and findings of my journey that may be helpful to start-ups, sales professionals, and recruiters looking to build the best teams.

I would like to thank everyone who has made this possible, our Director Maarten for having the faith in me, our Associate Directors for their leadership and guidance. My Sydney team who believed in me and chose SMAART as their preferred place to work.

Everyone in the office for being so warm and welcoming/tolerant. Our clients and all of the awesome candidates who have given their time. Lastly my girlfriend Dionne who took the biggest risk and packed her bags to follow me on this crazy journey.

Here is to the next 12 months.
