If you need a reusable, sustainable and efficient thermal cover you must….
In MdG we developed in the last 4 years more and more reusable and sustainable cover solutions.
Reusable thermal covers, must have several important features to be considered to ensure durability, ease of repair, and consistent thermal performance.
Following features we developed for La Couverture, must be in place:
1. Durable Materials
The materials of the cover should be tough, resilient, and capable of withstanding the environmental conditions they will encounter, especially for continuous tarmac transportations.
?Important materials include:
Outer layers: Often made from tough fabrics like silicone-coated PVC that resist abrasion and protect from UV radiation.
Insulation and inner material: Efficient thermal insulation layers such as aerogel blankets, thick flees, or other insulated light and flexible material. Heat-reflective materials like aluminized fabrics to minimize heat transfer are also very important. For big sizes, flexibility is as well an important variable, if we want to fold the cover after use and sent it back.
2. Modular Design
Segmented Panels: Covers made in modular sections allow easy removal and replacement of damaged parts without replacing the entire cover and give operational flexibility and a more efficient management of big quantities of covers buy placing them over the pallets.
Patchable Sections: Having seams or access points where patches can be applied makes repairs more manageable.
3. Flexible Repair Options
The possibility to repair a cover is essential for sustainability and a key factor.
The cover materials should allow for heat-resistant adhesives to be used for patching, especially for on-site repairs where stitching might not be possible.
All materials must be sewn or stitched easily using high-temperature thread for reinforced repairs.
Hook-and-loop fasteners (like Velcro), zippers, or snap buttons allow parts to be removed and repaired without causing damage to the surrounding material.
4. Heat Resistance
High Temperature Tolerance: Covers should withstand high temperatures without degrading.
Thermal Cycling Durability: Resistance to repeated heating and cooling cycles without loss of insulating properties or physical breakdown.
5. Water and Chemical Resistance
Waterproofing: The ability to repel water or other liquids, especially for outdoor covers, is essential to prevent damage from moisture. Washable material are important for a good long term performance an regular maintenance of the cover.
6.Lightweight and Flexible
Flexibility allows our covers to be removed and refitted easily, while lightweight materials reduce the burden of installation and repair.
This also aids in efficient shipping and reduces overall weight-related costs.
7. Secure Fastening Mechanisms
Fasteners like straps, hooks, or buckles should be easy to open and close yet secure enough to keep the cover in place during use. They should be designed for easy removal and repair.
8. Repair station network
A repair station network that cover globally should be an additional support for all repair activities. This makes the product always repairable and prolongs its shelf life.
9. Thermal Performance Stability
Even after repairs, the cover should maintain its thermal insulation properties. This is crucial for maintaining efficiency in thermal management.
10. Environmentally Friendly Design
Materials that are recyclable or less harmful to the environment promote sustainability.
Reusability is key, and the ability to repair extends the life of the cover, reducing waste over time.
By focusing on these features, reusable thermal covers can be optimized for longevity, effective thermal management, and repairability, which is crucial for industrial or environmental applications where high temperatures are present. La Couverture complies with all those requirements and is the future response to thermal protection of temperature sensitive goods and sustainability.
