You are My Energizer!

You are My Energizer!

Hi?Professional,

I went to work some time ago and felt extremely down and demotivated. This wasn't because I was lazy or hated my job but my head wasn't just in the right space to work coupled with the economic meltdown. I am sure you have been there before.

My manager saw this and really identified with me. He dished out nice encouraging words that brought me back to my feet again. More like a miracle to bring me back to life and this wasn't just as regards work.

I see how he motivates the whole team to achieve our task and doubles as a mentor. He was more like an Energizer!

He made me realize a manager is meant to be a leader of influence, coach and more.

I wanted to have such an influence in my own little space by bringing people back to their feet in their worst times.

This is majorly my aim for always writing to you?Kendor.

I want you to feel energized to pursue your goals and be the best of yourself anytime you are reading this newsletter because your wins energize me.

If you feel this way too and want to be influential to people and to your team members, I strongly recommend taking bold steps with our Leadership and Management Skills training via this link:?https://kendorconsulting.com/leadright/ ?and thank me later.

Around the World of HR

Rage Applying

No alt text provided for this image

One day in December, 2022, a disgruntled Employee working in social media marketing, in her words got mad and decided to apply for 15 jobs.

What was the result? She got a job with higher pay and found the work environment more conducive. She said she rage applied and just like that, Rage Applying became a phenomenon and like quiet quitting, a new buzzword appeared.

Rage applying occurs when a dissatisfied employee unceremoniously applies to as many organisations as they can, in hopes of getting new employment they consider more suitable. Why do people do it? For some it is low pay, lack of growth or poor work-life integration, for others, fear of the unknown (job security), feelings of frustration and lack of appreciation.

Yes, the above could be genuine reasons to be dissatisfied but as with everything in life, there are pros and cons. So before you rage apply, count the costs. A career coach said, "a hasty decision when emotions are heightened is not a recipe for success."

You may derive instant gratification from changing work environment, but being that you did not carry out proper research before applying to the new organisation, you may find out that you jumped, "from the frying pan into the fire."

So what is another approach to dealing with feelings of dissatisfaction at work? Communicate! Tell your employer how you feel in a firm yet respectful manner. Also remember, timing is important! Know the right time to bring issues up.

Now over to the employer. You have heard how your employee feels. Where possible, make adjustments. Re-evaluate work culture, make changes to talent management, and pay more attention to rewarding and recognising.

For some, rage applying has been rewarding, others, have been left with feelings of regret.

What are you thoughts regarding this phenomenon? Is it something you have done?

What Companies Get Wrong About Talent Management by Peter Cappelli, Mark Mortensen, Amy C. Edmondson, Roger L. Martin

'Businesses make all kinds of mistakes when it comes to recruiting, hiring, benefits, and job design. In fact, many common U.S. HR practices are downright bad for companies, employees, and shareholders' says Peter Cappelli in "How Financial Accounting Screws Up HR." Firms don't invest in training, for instance, and tightly limit headcount even when understaffed.

The Harvard Business Review gives insight into what most companies get wrong about managing talent.

According to Forbes, team building is the most important investment you can make for your people.

Team building helps your team members understand each other better to achieve organisational goals.

Over the years, during our team bonding sessions with clients, it is amazing what everyone gets to discover about their teammates. The bond, trust and openness make it spectacular.

Team bonding is not lame or a waste of time and resources. It has proven to increase engagement among employees.

It is a period where teams get to know each other away from the office and form a bond.

Kendor has helped organisations achieve this aim of bonding among teams across various industries and would be excited to do the same with your team.
