Are You Moonshooting, Yet..

Are You Moonshooting, Yet..

Have you ever set a goal that:

  • Is Audacious
  • Is Beyond your current capabilities
  • Feels like wishful thinking?

These are the kind of goals that push you and your company to the limits and beyond.

Now these goals are what is referred to as 10x goals, AKA "moonshots."

What are 10x Goals?

10x goals are goals that are ten times bigger or greater than what you currently believe is possible. They are ambitious, challenging, and often seem impossible at first glance. The idea behind 10x goals is that by aiming for something truly extraordinary, even if you fall short, you will achieve more than if you had set a more conservative goal.

The classical 10x Goal

One of the most famous examples of a 10x goal is President John F. Kennedy's goal of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth before the end of the 1960s.

[ Hmmm.. I know what you’re thinking.. no waving flag, but hey let’s focus on the goal itself :) ]

Why Set 10x Goals?

Setting 10x goals can have a transformative effect on individuals and organizations. They force us to think differently, to innovate, and to push beyond our comfort zones. Even if we don't achieve our 10x goal, the process of striving for it can lead to breakthroughs and achievements that would not have been possible otherwise.

Having worked in the food delivery industry, those sample goals come to my mind as possible examples of moonshots:

  • Increase Daily Orders by 10x: A food delivery company could set a goal to increase its daily orders from 1,000 to 10,000 within a cycle. This would require significant investment in marketing, operations, and technology, but the payoff could be immense.
  • Expand into 10 New Cities: Another 10x goal could be to expand into 10 new cities within a year. This would require careful planning, market research, and operational scaling, but it could open up new revenue streams and customer bases.
  • Achieve 10x Revenue Growth: A more financially focused 10x goal could be to achieve 10 times the revenue within a year. This would require a combination of increasing customer base, order frequency, and average order value.

How to Set 10x Goals

  1. Think Big: Don't limit yourself to what you think is possible. Imagine the ideal outcome, no matter how outlandish it may seem.
  2. Break it Down: Once you have your 10x goal, break it down into smaller, more manageable milestones. This will make it easier to track progress and stay motivated.
  3. Stay Committed: Achieving a 10x goal is not easy, and there will be setbacks along the way. Stay committed to your goal and keep pushing forward, even when it seems impossible.

10x goals and moonshots require courage, determination, and a willingness to accept failure. But the rewards can be immense, not just in terms of what you achieve, but in who you become in the process.
