“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”―Wayne Gretzky
I can relate this quote to my own experience from the past.
I used to be good at football, cricket & volleyball. But, I rarely played those sports because I lacked confidence when I was in high school. I was also shy & always thought about what if I failed & what would others think of it.
All those thoughts running around in my mind, I kept to myself & didn't participate actively in most of the games. But whichever game I had participated in, I got to know that I added value to the team. Not just because of the performance but also because of the feedback I received from my teammates.
Unfortunately, I missed participating in every single sport when I got into college. Maybe I did participate in 1 game (which I didn't do good because of the lack of practice). There are several reasons behind this, which if I write it down, the list is going to be endless but I can share something from my experience.
Key Takeaways from my experience:
1. First is “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
2. You can't blame others for your failure.
3. You have to focus if you want to achieve something.
4. It doesn't matter who you're with, all that matters is what YOU CHOOSE to do.
5. If you love something, you've got to do it. You needn't worry about what others would think.
7. Regretting the past isn't gonna help you. You've got to pull your sleeves up & step up the game.
7. Finally, It's never too late. You can continue to do what you love, even if you've had a long break.
