Will You Be Mine?

Will You Be Mine?

On behalf of the Finovate Research team, we hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day this week!

There are some who look down their noses at a holiday that in modern times has become synonymous with the greeting card industrial complex. As for me, I tend to be on the side of more holidays rather than fewer holidays. So bring on the chocolates, roses, and candy hearts!

I'm David Penn, Research Analyst with Finovate. This week's edition of our Finovate Weekly newsletter includes our interview with product management expert Erin Wynn, a preview of what to expect at FinovateEurope in less than two weeks time, and a Pause Button selection featuring a book that articulates a bold new role for the blockchain. Enjoy!

Humanizing the Digital Experience

This month, Finovate kicked off its Women in Fintech Series with a conversation on what community banks and credit unions need to do in order to have successful digital transformations. Our first interviewee of 2024 is Erin Wynn , Executive Director of Product Management at NCR Voyix .

In our conversation, Wynn discussed her own origins in financial services and fintech, what trends her company's customers and clients are most interested in, and what it means to effectively humanize digital experiences in financial services.

Pause Button: Read, Write, Own by Chris Dixon

This book has been moving up toward the top of my must-read list for weeks. Read, Write, Own: Building the Next Era of the Internet by Chris Dixon argues that the kind of decentralized, democratic, inherently creative and innovative Internet that we've seen be consumed by the tech giants and social media is still possible. That Dixon finds blockchain technology to be part of the solution is a large part of what makes his book both timely and intriguing.

Dixon is a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, joining the venture capital firm in 2013. He was responsible for early investments in companies like Oculus (which was acquired by Facebook) and Coinbase (which went public in 2021). He is currently running a16z crypto, which has invested more than $7 billion in crypto and web3 technologies.

Taking Advantage of Fintech's Talent Rich Environment

If there's a bright side to the fact that many tech companies are reducing headcount, then it may be in the abundance of talent now available for startups and other companies looking for experienced fintech professionals to help them get to the next level.

With these opportunities in mind, we recently shared a series of presentations from our sister publication Fintech Futures on the Finovate blog that are designed to help companies adopt and incorporate best practices when it comes to hiring. The series, called Fintech Founders, features insights on hiring strategies, building a team and more from Michael Duncan of Bankjoy , Karan Jain of NayaOne , Kathleen Craig of Plinqit , Chase Neinken ?? of Chimney , and Ned Palmer, MD MPH of Panacea Financial .
