Are you measuring the metrics your audience value the most?

I just heard another marketing expert share the open rate of their member database emails as a singular (notable?) success metric


which made me wonder:


If the success metrics of your content is open rates (on emails) then maybe


you just might be missing the best opportunity you have to actually make a real difference in someone's life or business?


How would you know?

Of course the challenge with that ("have you made a difference?") is how would you ever know that?


Well you might just need to get into an actual (live) conversation with a member of your audience?


either 121 or in a group

Different Measures?

Maybe the success metrics in order of significance (from lowest to highest) should be audience members:

1] opening your email (open rates) and then [Open Rates]

2] showing up for a live conversation and then [Live Conversations]

3] who you have made an actual difference for? [Difference Made]


A different start:

Maybe if you have

  1. a specific audience with
  2. a specific challenge for which you have
  3. a specific solution / suggestion / advice


and when you shared your content / message you achieved:

1] 100 open your email (your message / your content) and

2] 10 Show up for a live conversation (121 or in a group)

3] And you make a difference to one of them


Then maybe that is a better success rate? (metric?)


It certainly feels like a good starting point?
