You, me, her, him, they - we all belong on LinkedIn

You, me, her, him, they - we all belong on LinkedIn

We want LinkedIn to be a place where everyone feels they belong and for many of us, our pronouns are core to our identity and how we want to be seen.

Therefore I’m really excited to share that as of this week, pronouns will be added as an optional field at the top of your LinkedIn profile, next to your name, where you can add your gender pronouns to let others know how you’d like to be addressed.

This feature is hugely sought after by our members, particularly within our LGBTQ+ community, and I am delighted to see it formally launch.

Over the years, as someone who is very passionate about our LGBTQ+ Network (Out@In) and frequently represents it at external events, the request to be able to clearly display how one wishes to be addressed is something I’ve heard from many people, and very often. I’m very proud of our product team for having worked together with Out@In members to address this important piece of feedback and bring this feature to life.

We are very conscious of getting this right for every one of the 24 languages in our global community, so for now, this new feature will be limited to the UK, Ireland, Sweden, US and Canada, with more countries to be added soon.

Check out this blog post to learn more about the new feature and how it'll help continue making LinkedIn a place where everyone feels like they belong. This is one of a few great profile features that are launching this week, so please do get involved by engaging with all the exciting updates we are introducing for our members.

This is the best news I've seen in a long time! Many thanks, Bruna Gil and team. Glad to hear that this was a business collab with your inclusive community - well done! ???? Here is a quick guide I created on why & how to add pronouns on social platforms to celebrate the launch. Hope folks find it helpful and welcome any feedback: https://www.dhirubhai.net/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6798575741618520064/

This is great. And, as a nonbinary labor & employment attorney, I seriously worry about this being used as cover for hiring discrimination. This is why I train HR leaders in avoiding LGBTQ discrimination and harassment in hiring, etc. at work. Remember that those who are the safest (cis people) don't have an issue including pronouns. It's trans and nonbinary people who are the most vulnerable & deserve privacy.

Bruna Gil - I'm excited for this addition! Are there any updates on when this will be available in the United States? I sent an inquiry (including a link to this post) to LinkedIn Help, and the reply I received from the Member Support Consultant was about how to add a recording of the pronunciation of my name to my profile, with no information about the pronoun field. Any updates would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
