You may take it or leave it

We are in an era where everyone seems to have their own version of the #truth. The line between the left and right sides are becoming blurrier. The position of the “truth” is now contestable depending on each person’s frame of reference. Being right or wrong now depends on several factors. It is as if we lost our #compass and therefore, we missed the direction to the North.

We can see and feel the impact of the “relative truth” everywhere – at work, at home, everywhere. Meanwhile, we need to establish something clearly. It may not matter if I face the West and call it my North, the position of the North will not change. Are there certain aspects of life where we must continue to learn the fundamental #principles that point us to what is true?

For example, we mostly agree with the principles of science that became the basis of most inventions today. We may not disagree with the law of gravity without consequences. Principles are true, and when used correctly, yield successful results. In that case, there are fundamental principles that guide success in finances, marriage, health, business, leadership, and every aspect of life.

More importantly, we do not invent fundamental principles (the truth) using our own version of the truth. We learn or discover principles. The fact that something feels right to you or that you are convinced or sincere about it does not make it true or right. You know that something is right or true when you put it to test using principles.

What principles guide your undertakings? Where is your compass? You may take it or leave it, what is true is true.

Prowezz Leadership very provocative piece Dele Ola, Ph.D., P.Eng. ! Just what we all need to get us thinking for ourselves… and refrain from allowing others to think for us. I use the principle of challenging my own ‘truths’. This allows me to step outside my comfort zone of the known into the discomfort zone of the unknown. The result? My comfort zone grows bigger and wider. Continue to lead my friend!????

A lot to think about. What principles are guiding the decisions that I am about to make? I want to make sound decisions that will stand the test of time.
