Adobe analysed 2 million job postings and 2 million resumes across 18 diverse high-growth fields. Half the job postings listed creativity as a necessary skill, but three out of four resumes didn’t include it. <read more >
Your job is a creative job - and you do not know it
Creative skills are being sought in fields like such as data science, nursing, social work, information security, construction etc. Most people do not think of these fields as "creative".
Problem solving, critical thinking, innovation, and creativity are 3 most in-demand skills. The reason is automation!
Machines are doing repeatable tasks. The tasks that demand creativity are being left for humans.
Rethinking the job as "creative" will encourage you to switch on your creative elements.
Creativity is really just solving problems in original ways. <read more>
How to build your creative superpowers
Bombard your senses: Try to feed something new to your senses every day. Watch a movie in a language you do not know. Try to solve the problems from one field with the ideas of another. Listen to podcasts, view TED talks and read white papers.
I was a guest on the podcast of futurist Ross Dawson called Thriving on Overload.

What you will learn
Interview experts: I have interviewed experts on sleep, music, acting, personal branding and much more. People who have written a book are terrific experts you must check out.
Travel and explore new worlds: I create imaginary travel plans to countries. I read the blogs of traveler's, check out their food, music and their local heroes. Sometimes there are documentaries made about their customs and rituals and festivals. I love watching those.
I am a fan of Apple's minimalistic designs. They are masters of leveraging white space to draw attention to what they want you to focus on. This is the missing link in most people's lives.
They find enough things to do outside the comfort zone. BUT all the sensory stimulation is useless if you do not provide time to connect the dots. I try to connect the dots by drawing Sketchnotes of the ideas I have. That process gives me time and space to make connections.
Sleeping for eight hours a day can be another counter-intuitive way to become more creative. I am sure you have your own hacks to be more creative. Do share them in the comments.

Be open to different points of view even those you completely disagree with, try to build a convincing case for an opposing point of view. This ensures that your thinking doesn't fall into any strait jacket. I liked your creativity hacks like adequate sleep, watching a movie in a different language (I assume you meant without sub titles !)

2 年Our creator has blessed us with the potential to be creative . It is one of the greatest human asset . Sadly our environment and systems expects us to conform. Observation and self learning greatly help us to be creative . An improvement and problem solving and meeting unmet need mind set can drive to be creative .

2 年Thanks for sharing Abhijit Bhaduri. Creativity indeed is joining the dots and letting the sparks fly! A lot of people box themselves into right brain and therefore creative and left brain therefore analytical. The truth is all of us have the potential to be both. No better example than President APJ Abdul kalam who was both a scientist and an accomplished veena player. So many other examples prove the same. Innovation cannot survive in the absence of creativity. And problem solving in not just about formulae ...in fact about breaking formula thinking!

2 年This is brilliant. Adding creativity in our regular jobs can work wonders. Also, most importantly, it's the leverage humans have over machines.
