You may be better off chasing the next Bitcoin or Tesla. The thrill of that ride is definitely potent. The Endorphins are powerful.

You can do it all yourself.

But… Should you?

Home renos. Dental Hygiene. Investment allocation.

What do these three have in common?

You can go at them ALL BY YOURSELF if you're up to it.

You can retile your bathroom floor by yourself with the help of several YouTube DIY videos.

You’ll save not only the costs of the contractor but also the headaches of dealing with them.

You can similarly skip the dentist/hygienist for several years.

Amazon will provide all the tools you need to take care of your teeth(at least on a basic level).

Investment allocation can likewise be figured out and done on your own. There’s so many books in the library. So many resources available online.

So why pay someone to do it for you if you can figure it all out on your own?

I for one love learning new ideas and skills, and trying new things.

But eliminating my regular dental visits to the hygienist is not on my agenda.

In fact I’ve greatly enjoyed going to my hygienist on a regular basis, if only as an accountability partner.

The hygienist makes sure I’m keeping up with all the lessons I’ve learned in keeping my gums and teeth healthy and clean.

But really it's been much more than that. I’m certain that my regular visits with the hygienist has prevented many cavities and the pain of sitting in the dentist's chair unnecessarily.

The investment arena is not much different. There’s not much rocket science to it.

If you have the time and mental acumen to study and analyze various investments, while weighing out the pros and cons of each one, you may actually get a kick out of it.

You may actually enjoy looking over the financial reports and spreadsheets.

For some clients who are in this dilemma I’ll recommend they keep a portion of their assets with their discount broker and manage that portion on their own.

There’s lots of excitement in the stock market and the last thing I want to do to a client is take away excitement from their life.

A note of caution however. It is exactly this excitement that leads to the greatest losses in the markets.

A wise investor once noted; “If you lost $60,000 in the stock market, don’t feel down, it's just the cost you paid to have the thrill”.

You can either have that thrill in Vegas or in the stock market, but it comes with a price tag.

This is one advantage of hiring a professional to manage your portfolio. It removes the emotions.

Keeping the portfolio in the hands of someone working with their mind instead of with raw sentiments.

But it is much more than this.

Of the most beneficial elements of having a professional manage your portfolio is the peace of mind knowing that this professional uses the best tools, is immersed in what he does and has your best interest at heart.

But hey, it’s not for everyone.

You may be better off chasing the next Bitcoin or Tesla. The thrill of that ride is definitely potent.

But may just as well end up being costly.

The endorphins you’re needy of can also be attained in other ways.
