YOU may be able to help return the photographs ? Read on...
Mayu Kanamori is a multi disciplined artist. Her strong body of work covers many areas including photography, writing and installations. At present she is working on a community based project and is calling out publicly for anyone to assist her in finding out more about a collection of photographs she discovered in a market in Geelong, Victoria.
The photographs appear to be taken in Japan during the period of 1930 to 1960. Many of the faces reappear in the images and are thought to be family related. Mayu would like to return them back to their family. The question of how they ended up in country Australia is one of the many questions the project is attempting to solve.
I attended one of the workshops Mayu held recently and was intrigued by the story. As a photographer I know that each frame holds a story and would like to see these images back in the hands of those who stories they belong to.
The photographic installation can be viewed in person till 30 May 2021 in Sydney at Central Park Mall Lv2 28 Broadway Chippendale. The works and more information about the project can be viewed on line at https://untitled.showa.com.au/
