Are You Managing Your Energy?

What is Energy?

Your energy is simply your state of being. There are many things that we like to do in our lives and also there are many that we do not like to do. When we are involved in activities that we like to do, when we interact with people we like to be with, or when we go to places we like to go, we gain the energy. We feel lively, we feel good about ourselves, we express ourselves by laughter, feeling inner joy and happiness. And the reverse happens when we are in a situation we do not like, we have to live with people whom we do not appreciate, we have to involve in activities we do not like to, we have to visit places we never want to. Then we lose energy, feel exhausted, we feel tired, we feel angry, we feel depressed and do not feel like living.

What we like?

If we make a list of all the things in our lives that we like and also a list of all the things that we don’t like, it will be worthwhile. When you at the list of the things, people, situations or places which you appreciate, you feel good and energised. So keep this list to feel good at least once a day to feel good about yourself.

What we don’t like?

Now, look at the other list, which has listed all the activities, people, places or situations that you do not like. Now look at each of them carefully, what can you to change the situation, how can you more likeable. E.g. you may not like your fat body or your clothes, can you not do something to make it more likeable. I am sure you can. Take another example, you may not like your nature of work, let us say it is a sales job, and you do not enjoy selling anything, you feel bad. Then, why do not you find out what is the kind of job that you like, let us say you like computer job or designing or creative kind of work. You can then find out what skills and certifications you need to pick up to be marketable and able to earn money. The idea is that there could be many things which you do not like, simply cribbing may not help, look for possibilities how can you make them likeable. If you are able to change, even half of the things that you do not like, and alter them to your liking, you will release lot of your energy.

Knowing what we cannot change?

Well, there will be several things in the list which we will not be able to change, all that we need to do is to simply accept those, it could be people, or places or activities and so on. Why to worry, what we cannot change, at least enjoy those which we like and at the same time, keep looking for possibilities of converting what we do not like to what we like, and of course, without getting involved in blaming or complaining. It would need just a careful analysis of your situation. Problem happens when we keep thinking about what we are not able to like and also not able to change as well. This is where we need real help, and most likely we get into the most simple act, that is, blaming others for our situations. And that worsens the situations for us, it makes further weaker and weaker. This is where we need wisdom, intuition and hope for being better. What we should do is to meditate and pray for making things more acceptable to us. Meditation and prayer both have a lot of potential, and it surely works. It will either alter yourself or other people or situation around you to make things more acceptable. And then you can maintain your high energy level and use this energy to achieve your dreams.

Time is a limited resource. Energy, on the other hand, is a different beast entirely. Because you have a certain amount of control over your energy level and focus, you can use it to power a more productive day. In other words, it’s about working smarter, not harder. And that idea has pretty much set the tone of productivity theory for the past decade. A separate case study of a large healthcare organization published by The Energy Project sheds light on exactly how managing your energy can help improve your workday. This study found putting energy-management practices to the test helped cut back on inefficient meetings (sign us up for that), improved team communication, and ultimately boosted employees’ work capacity by 30 percent.
