Are you a Manager or a Leader?

Are you a Manager or a Leader?

Are you a Manager or a Leader? Lets look,

  • Do you create a Vision or a goal?
  • Are you ready to take risks or you like to control the risks?
  • What do you like ... people to like you or people to follow you?

Interesting questions... Isn’t it? Leader or a manager? One is not bounded by designation and one is all about having a designation and authority. What does it mean?

A designation doesn’t make you a leader, your qualities and characteristics does. So, what is the difference between a leader and a Manager?

So what does a Leader do differently?

  • Connect to people
  • Consider and explore all available options and choose the best solution
  • Communicate the decisions at right time with right stakeholders
  • Create and Drive an execution phase effectively and in efficient manner
  • Confirm the outcome by validating with the baseline / goal defined
  • Congratulate and Celebrate the success with each other and failures by lessons learned

Let’s see some characteristics of known leaders:

Winston Churchill – The Greatest Leaders of the Modern World -> How a flawed man became a great leader??

  • He used words as weapons, powerful thoughts and amazing communication skills
  • Simple and efficient planning and decision-making
  • Engaging and forceful personality
  • Some different qualities like - an artist, a historian and a writer; A Nobel Prize winner in Literature

Bill Gates - A leader with a failure and a great success

A major failure - first venture called Traf-O-Dat was a known failure. Instead of giving up, his passion for computers and his vision to make use of every opportunity, gave him a great success with Microsoft.

His Success Secret: “It’s fine to celebrate success, but it is more important to heed the lessons of Failure.”

So, what do you want to be... a good leader with skilled followers or a designated manager with employees? Remember...Both are good and add business vales in their own way. It’s all about the working style and making a change. Choice is yours ??
