Are you making life simple?
Happy Friday!
One of the biggest lessons that I have learned over the?many years I have practised?marketing is that if you want to encourage someone to do something, the easier you make that thing to do, the greater the chance they'll do it.
For example, if you want to encourage someone to buy from your website, ensure?your website can be easily found.?Make sure that it loads quickly and when your customer is there, make it super easy for them to get where they need to go to buy from you.
If you want someone to engage in your social media content, make it easy to consume. Swiftly demonstrate your?content's relevancy and the value it brings to?your intended audience so that they actually find?it hard not to engage. Don't bamboozle people with jargon that they'll have to decode or puzzle over, because, they won't, they'll simply scroll on by.
Inspired by the quote below, in this edition of the Friday Five, I share an easy tip to get a greater bang for your marketing buck, and suggest how creating habits may?help you to achieve your goals.
Heads up though, the podcast ep that I have recommended may not be the easiest listen for some! But?hey, sometimes in life we have to do hard things.
Happy reading.

"The trouble with so many of us, is that we underestimate the power of simplicity."

For those of you not familiar with who Caitlin Moran is, she's an acclaimed writer and a world-famous feminist icon. She's written two books specifically about feminism,?How To Be A Woman?and?More Than a Woman.?
In her latest book, however, she explores how the problems of feminism are now also the problems of men. And the book is causing quite the controversy.
This interview with Mia Freedman deep dives into some of the topics that Moran explores in the book, such as the effects of pornography use in men, and the interest in?Andrew Tate ?for adolescent boys.?
We are so far from having reached gender equality. However, I don't think any female wants our equality to come at the expense of another gender, after all, we are fighting for equality - not reversed inequality.
I thought it was a great conversation and it helped me get curious about some of my existing stories that I hold around this topic.
You can listen to this ep right?here .
PS I could not have a conversation fast enough with my son about pornography after hearing about some of the horror stories mentioned by Caitlin in this ep! Let me know what you think of the episode.
HOW TO DO MORE WITH LESS
Tip #3 - Activate your tribe
One of our most successful, award-winning marketing campaigns included a social media post that went viral without a cent of advertising spend.
The post was a?one-minute video, that told an emotive story. It starred real people and it had a compelling safety message for the local community.
This post gained 375 shares, 42k video views, 103,895 reach and 10,013 engagements within 12 hours of being?published. And one of the main reasons for those results is that as soon as the post was published, the Managing Director texted all 200 staff to let them know we had published the post and asked if they could get online and like, comment or share the post with their networks.
Boom.

One day we?are moving to France. The south of France to be precise. We are going to buy a run-down old farmhouse in a small village somewhere in Provence, do it up and then host people from all over the world.
There are a few bits and pieces that need to be sorted before we make this move such as learning to speak the language!
Until about 29 days ago, I literally knew how to say hello and thank you in French and that's it! Fortunately these days there are Apps such as?Duolingo ?that can help you to overcome such drawbacks.?
However, anyone who has learned to speak another language will know that the most effective way to learn is to ensure consistency.?
Now the clever folks at Duolingo know this so they have gamified and incentivised people to show up each day by implementing a reward system of daily streaks. You show up and do a lesson each day and you get to add a day to your daily streak number. You know, just like Snapchat does to help?kids stay addicted to their platform.
So, in my quest to increase my daily streaks and to ensure that I do enough practice and learning to actually achieve my overall goal of learning to speak French, I needed to find a way to incorporate this new daily activity as a habit.
Now, those of you who are familiar with James Clear and his book?Atomic Habits , will recall that one of the tactics that he recommends to successfully incorporate a new habit, is to habit stack.
Habit stacking is when you?identify a current?habit?you already do each day and then?stack?your new behaviour on top.
I drink one coffee a day, generally at about 7am after I have completed my daily exercise. One?Duolingo lesson takes about 2-3 mins to complete, so it's the perfect activity to accompany my morning coffee.
Now, I can't have a coffee without automatically associating it with my French lesson. And hopefully, with this new habit locked in, this time next year - I'll be able to write this whole email in French!?
It's no coincidence that the most successful marketers in business?are the ones who develop good habits to ensure that they show up consistently.
A consistent approach to strategy setting, a consistent implementation schedule?and a consistent approach to measuring and optimisation will drive results. To achieve this consistency, you will need to ensure that you are creating good marketing habits
The clients of mine who are creating good habits and taking this consistent approach to their marketing are growing their annual revenue by up to 168%.
It's honestly not rocket science. It's simply good habits.
If you'd like to know more about how your business can achieve strong results by implementing good habits,?let's have a conversation.
Do you have a book recommendation?
Quite often I find myself reading three books at once. It's exactly what I'm doing now.?
I'm reading?Brand Activism from Purpose to Action ?by Christian Sarker and Philip Kotler,?A Little Life ?by?Hanya Yanigihara and?Business Stripped Bare ?by Richard Branson.
I think I'm going to ditch Business Stripped Bare. I enjoyed the chapter on branding, but I'm getting bored by the subsequent chapters. Brand Activism is awesome - and highly relevant to where I am transitioning my services to and A Little Life is brilliant - but it's a fiction - not a business book.
So, while I'm finishing off these three, I'd love to hear from you if you have a great business or marketing book recommendation that I could share with this community! Simply DM me with the title and I'd love to also know why you loved it and recommend it. Any shared recommendations will be accompanied by a shout-out for your business!?
