SILAS’ Story
We hear a lot of stories of things that happen to very young children in lower socio-economic countries such as Africa. That is where this story begins, Silas is a 14 year old boy from Africa who was born HIV+ due to mother to child transmission during childbirth.
As an illegitimate child, Silas was forced into a life of slavery. At the age of 4, he was forced to look after seven head of Longhorn Cattle, taking them to graze daily. Pasture can be hard to come by, so at times this could be quite a distance from his village and many times he would fall asleep on the job from exhaustion.
He received constant physical abuse from his stepfather and others and many times he would go to bed hungry. This little boy was depleted of energy, love, hope, care and protection which was all exacerbated by his condition. How he had survived to this point was a miracle and a blessing from god.
Thanks to the generous work of our business partners, Silas was rescued and taken to their Children's Village, COHAD (Children of Hope and Dignity) in north-eastern Uganda, Africa.
At the age of 5, he had no possessions and was wearing an inside out back to front pair of blue tracksuit pants when his family dropped him to COHAD. To take away his remaining bit of dignity, they took his pants from him and left him there naked. Silas is now aged 14 and knows love, trust and nurture and is starting to thrive in his environment, thanks largely to our company.
In July this year, Silas, was close to death, he had been refusing to take his medication and his health was deteriorating quickly. He was transferred to a hospital in Kampala, 6 hours away. His weight was declining rapidly and the doctors held very little hope for his survival.
In August 2018, Silas was placed on the Triangle of Health, since that time there has been a remarkable improvement in Silas' blood screens, specifically his viral load reading has significantly and dramatically improved to the point that his doctors are amazed. Hearing of his amazing results and wanting to help, our company has donated ongoing product to support Silas.
Fast forward a few months, he is now a happy and energetic little boy, enjoying going to school and playing and interacting with the other children. All the nutrients in the triangle are supplementing the lack of vitamins and minerals which were lacking from his daily diet and Silas loves it, loves the taste and looks forward to it everyday.
Our company will continue to support Silas in his mission for health and just this week his next 6 month supply arrived!!! It took 33 days and a few $$ to have the officials release the package, but it’s there! Every child deserves a chance..
It is stories just like this as to why the Caring Hands Foundation was created. By donating the Potato Paks we continue to support children and families around the world by providing them access to nutrition, sanitation and education.
If you can, please get in touch & donate, 100% goes towards feeding children like Silas. We aimed to feed 2,000,000. We fed 3,000,000 in the past 10months! Think about how you can impact someones entire life ??
