Are you looking for a real-life ghost story set in the quaint town of New Hope?
HAUNTED Excerpt
THE library was just as impressive as the rest of the house with its crème-colored walls and plush white sofas. Colorful throw pillows were arranged on oversized chairs. Built-in bookshelves stocked with leather spines were situated on almost every wall.
A breathtaking crystal chandelier twinkled overhead. “This is gorgeous.” Karly turned her head toward the massive brick fireplace. The sight was mesmerizing, and she couldn’t seem to look away.
“Magnificent, isn’t it?” Tom followed her gaze and then set her bag on the floor.
“Was it here with the building? It looks much older than the rest of the place.”
“Thayne got the bricks and the fireplace mantel from an auction outside of London. The beams on the ceiling were from a three-hundred-year-old church. He wants to make the place look like a real English-style B&B, nothing but the best.”
“I can see he’s invested a lot in the place.” It would be a shame to have a spirit jeopardizing such an elaborate venture.
“He did this all on his own without any help from his family,” Karly noted the pride in Tom’s voice. “I’ve worked for the Harpers in one capacity or another for most of his life until Thayne decided to open an inn and asked me to come on board.”
Her mind reeled. “Hold on, Harper as in the Harper hotel conglomeration?” Unease coursed through her veins. Karly hadn’t realized she was doing a cleansing for someone from such a prominent family.
“Don’t let the name intimidate you. He’s extremely down to earth. He’ll be thrilled if you can get rid of whatever is wreaking havoc around here.”
The ghost’s energy pulsated all around the room. “There’s a woman here asking for my help. I hear music in the background. The song is beautiful and quite haunting, actually.”
“Sorry to keep you waiting. I was finishing up a call.” A deep male voice reverberated through the room and sent tingles along her skin. But why did the voice sound so familiar?
When Karly turned toward the door, her heart slammed into her ribs. Her gaze locked onto the sexy stranger from last night. Today he was decked out in a Brooks Brothers suit, crisp white shirt, and silk tie that, in total, probably cost more than she made in a month.
Everything about his appearance made him look like the cultured businessman, except for his hair, which was an unruly mass of golden waves. Karly swallowed hard, trying to suppress the urge to walk over to him and run her fingers through it. “Y-you’re Thayne Harper?”
Those whiskey-colored eyes burned into hers with a combination of anger and lust as he strode into the room. “You’re the medium? You’ve got to be kidding me.”
