I received this story in an email from Karl Bryan a couple of weeks ago in his wonderful ‘One Thing’ series, and I was reminded of it today when talking to a client. I’m sharing it here as I thought it might give you something to think about too.
In business, we don’t know where the ‘one million’ is hidden. Maybe you get lucky and find it after flipping the first cone or two, but for most, there will be the need to flip a lot more cones than that to ever stand a chance of achieving your goal.
Every day you need to take actions (or flip a few cones) that will take you closer to your goal. Get into the habit and routine of doing those things even when you don’t know what the outcome will be. Don't avoid them or put them off. Opportunities might present themselves that you had never even thought of.
If you have fallen out of love with doing some of them, you need to assess whether you can delegate them. What are your strengths and the things you love? What do you need to have in place to ensure you can continue to do them? How can you utilize your team to help with the things that don't light you up? You can read more about delegating here.
