I recently completed a Book "THIS IS MARKETING" by Seth Godin and the best thing as a marketer I took away is that:-
1."You can't be seen until you learn to see"-You need to really care about the people whom you are connected with and diagnose their problem to provide them the best possible solution.The worst thing you can do as a marketer is to try to target everyone, which means you will convey your message to NO-ONE.
You don't need the biggest possible audience to do impressive work but the smallest viable audience who trust you for what you have to say and look after your content day in and day out. If your content or product or service really helps the people, then guess what will happen!people will start spreading your message to other people who are in the same niche.
A lot of us want to spread the word as fast as we can to as many people as possible, but that isn't the right path.
Seth explains that "relentless pursuit of the masses will make you boring because mass means average,".
2. The second most important thing that I learned from this book is to keep telling your story because most of us get bored telling the same story repeatedly, we move off to tell a different story, that's a serious mistake. Seth states that to build trust, you must keep telling your story, The frequency, and consistency of your story is one way of building trust. The more you tell your story, the more people resonate with you. They pick you instead of other people who are doing the same work as you.
3. You need to learn to give gifts:-you must know the act of "GIVING GIFTS and being GENEROUS".We as humans are develop based on mutual support and being generous, that we are made to give rather than to receive. The biggest gift you can give is to "ADD VALUE to people" with 0 expectations in return. We need to give gifts because we seek to respect, not reciprocity.
I think it's one of the best books I have read in the marketing and I believe that you should try it. But the question is, are you?
