Are you looking after your staff?

2021/2020 was a time to sit tight if you had a job, and for many leaders I work with, it actually provided some great opportunities for challenge and crisis management which meant they were busier than ever and, in some cases, challenged like never before, which had the adrenaline pumping.
Now that we have adapted to new ways of working many people are taking stock of where they are and where they would like to be – what they want to achieve in the world.
There is also nothing like a global pandemic to focus the mind on what is most important to you in your life and many people have recognised that they were not truly living their values around family and friends which has heightened their desire to be more connected with those they love.
And of course, the employee’s experience of how they have been treated by their employer over the last 2 years is a critical factor in how they feel about showing up to work every day.
So how are you ensuring that your staff are engaged at work?
Challenged so that they grow professionally but not thrown in the deep end so that they simply want to get out and run away?
Providing development opportunities is an important element of retaining good people – money and benefits can only go so far.
What are you doing as a leader that lets your people know they are important to you and that their work matters?
And as you consider your team’s professional development it is also time to ask yourself who is taking care of my professional development?
