You are no longer paid according to how hard you work...REINVENT

When I wrote this Gen AI was not even launched yet. Today Gen AI has become mainstream and this message is ever more relevent.

So what do you need to do?

Our approach to achieving career success has to change. We will need to navigate our career like an entrepreneur. it is a mindset. Consider the following:

When things are going well,

• Someone with an employee mindset will say "don't change when things are not broken."
• Those with an entrepreneurial mindset will think, let's start looking at new opportunities

When one door closes,

• Someone with an employee mindset will wait for another door to open
• Those with an entrepreneurial mindset create new door

Here are some examples of entrepreneurial thinking in action:

1. Identifying and Seizing Opportunities:

• Recognizing unmet needs: Identifying gaps in the market or within your organization and proposing solutions.
• Taking initiative: Proactively seeking out new projects or responsibilities.

2. Embracing Risk and Uncertainty:

• Experimenting: Trying new approaches or methods, even if they involve some risk.
• Failing forward: Learning from mistakes and using them as stepping stones for future success.

3. Cultivating Innovation:

• Thinking outside the box: Challenging the status quo and exploring unconventional ideas.
• Collaborating: Working with others to generate new and creative solutions.

4. Taking Ownership and Responsibility:

• Being accountable: Taking responsibility for your actions and results.
• Driving results: Setting ambitious goals and working hard to achieve them.

5. Adapting to Change:

• Being flexible: Embracing change and adapting to new circumstances.
• Learning continuously: Staying updated on industry trends and developing new skills.

If you want to be in the driver seat of your career and life, embrace an entrepreneurial mindset.

With changes that's happening exponentially and an unpredictable job evolution, being an entrepreneur means you need to adapt fast. Fail fast and learn fast, if Plan A doesn't work, go with Plan B, if all else fail pivot.

Today's long-term career planning is not about knowing exactly where you will be in the future. There is so much uncertainty, unpredictability and change to make specific future plans.

However, just like an entrepreneur, if you build a career that continually expands your experience, skills based network of connections, mindset and options, then it doesn't matter exactly what changes you will face. You will have the agility, flexibility and adaptability to meet those changes, and build a career and life that makes sense for you.
