Are You Listening to Your Body…?

Are You Listening to Your Body…?

If you’ve ever felt the weight of painful episodes pressing down on your shoulders or the sadness of the past compressing your chest, you’ll understand that these are clear signals from your body that it’s time to let go. Your physical frame is asking you to release the burden of the past.

Whether you enjoy reading the wisdom of the Stoic philosophers or find inspiration in the example of Zen masters, our history as a species offers countless examples of the benefits of freeing ourselves from the pain and misery that we inevitably encounter during our lives.

It’s an unavoidable aspect of the human experience but the fact is that we all encounter defeat, disappointment and even heartbreak during the course of our lives. The question in today’s discussion is to decide whether your body is telling you to let go. This is important because our bodies retain deep-seated physical traces of the traumas we face. By learning to relax completely and breathe more deeply, by introducing positive suggestions into our internal dialogue, we can initiate profound changes in how we think and feel.? Mindfulness, of course, can also prove exceptionally helpful.

When an unpleasant memory triggers an uncomfortable reaction, we can pause and consciously remove ourselves from the familiar field of response. We can look at the memory from a distance and calmly let it go as if it doesn’t belong to us. These things happened but they happened in the past. And they are not happening now.

As we break the chains of connection, the memory loses its ability to produce a reaction in our bodies or in our minds. We learn to remain calmer, more centered and balanced because our memories require our emotional energy to fuel their presence in our lives. Turn off the emotional reaction and, without a fuel source, the memory fades until it loses its traction within the domain of your mental and emotional framework. By relaxing your body, especially in critical areas where old stresses have been retained, you invite the subconscious to release memories of any events that no longer serve your health or wellbeing. Make a choice today to release the weight of the past and create space in your life for a fresher, brighter future.
