As a business owner, it is important to our brand, our reputation and our business that clients enjoy working with us. It is business 101 to be good at what you do, so I never really worry about the quality of our work, which I know to be stellar. But lately, as our business has grown, we have been asking our clients what they really like about working with us. Here are some of their responses...
1. You are affordable. In the world of resume services, we see everything from the $99 resume to the $1500 resume. No offense to you $1500 resume writers, but most people are not going to be able to invest that kind of money in a resume, a 2 or 3 page document. Clients like us because we are affordable and that fact that we are affordable makes us attractive. Even more attractive is that fact that our mid priced resume is going to kick your $1500 resumes ass, every time.
2. You are responsive. Guilty! Yes, I am guilty of sleeping with my iPad and have been known to respond to an email or two in the middle of the night, and I am even faster in the middle of the day. More importantly, when you email me, I will email you right back. Even better, I will call you. Yes, taking the time to pick up the phone and touch someone is an asset in business. We are all busy, email is easy, but if you have a problem or a question, I would rather give you a call.
3. It's Personal. We get personal with our clients. We start off with a resume interview to really get to know you. What you do for a living, how much money you make and how happy or unhappy you are in your job is a personal thing. We are not cold, we are interested, engaged, we give advice along the way. We help you define what is right for you and help you get there. So yes, some of my clients know my kids names and I know theirs...our relationship is built around the process and sometimes that process gets personal.
4. Honesty...is hardly ever heard and mostly what I need from you. We love your business, we want to work with you, but we are not going to lie to you to get it. So, if you are currently a ballerina and you want to be an astronaut and you want me to help write a resume to get there, it is not going to happen. We are very straight forward in telling our potential clients what we can and can't do for you in a resume. We are masters in building your strengths, communicating your value and highlighting your achievements, but if you are going after a job that requires a certain type of degree or experience, and you don't have it, I am not going to tell you that you can get that job.
5. We have become friends, sort of... We count our customers as our friends. Not all of them. Not all 40,000 of them, but some of them. We like you, you like us, we have enjoyed working together and we have a relationship that lasts longer than 45 minutes. As you evolve through your career, we update and maintain your resume, we provide guidance, we give advice. If you go to an interview and something off-the-wall happens, and you want my perspective - call me. That is why we are friends (sort of).
