It's easy to fall into the trap of believing our instincts are infallible. We become so invested in our ideas that we seek out confirming information and surround ourselves with echoes of our own opinions. Our ego-driven decision-making is a luxury no founder can afford.
The hard truth is, data doesn't lie, but our egos can certainly deceive us. If we hope to make sound decisions, we must base them on objective insights, even when they contradict our beliefs. This means actively seeking out dissenting views, being open to challenges, and willing to change course when the numbers tell a different story. It's not about ignoring our instincts entirely, but rather checking them against the data and being honest about what it reveals.
Next time you're faced with a big decision, ask yourself: is this decision driven by data or ego? The answer could make or break your company's future.
