Are You a Legend In Your Own Mind?
Have you ever been a “legend in your own mind?” At one time I was. I was impressed by my own work, even telling my boss how I am different from others and gifted. Really? Yes, really.
When I finally finished a major project and looked at the work others in our department were doing, reality began to overtake my earlier delusion. If I am gifted, why does the Director always go to Scott for special projects? If I am so capable, why is Mary my boss, and not vice versa?
As I rediscovered reality, I found a quote that embodied my new attitude:
The only way to be an expert is to never stop being a student.
As job seekers, we need to embody humility in all we do. Few things turn off a hiring manager more than a candidate who is full of himself. You’ll have a chance to prove you’re a legend after you get that job.
If you or someone you know is looking for work, please share this post with them.
