What universe am I living in? I’m hearing more and more about companies excluding hiring managers in the recruitment process apart from the actual interview.??

Hiring managers should be LEADING the conversation with recruiter partners around the gaps in their team and potentially even gaps when it comes to diversity and inclusion, or any bias within the hiring process that needs to be addressed.??

Hiring managers should be in direct communication and collaboration with recruitment partners, because the better clarity and direction, the more accurate the job description and understanding of candidate values and behaviours. This will have a direct impact on the fit of the candidate and the reflection of working for the business.??

Information passed on to the recruitment partner should include:?

  • What makes the role more interesting for the ideal candidate than the same position in another company??
  • What does good performance in this role look like??
  • How will the new hire positively impact colleagues, clients and stakeholders if they perform better than average in this role??
  • What is the negative impact on colleagues, clients and stakeholders? if they perform poorly??
  • What are the elements this specific target group seeks in a job and employer, and in terms of compensation and benefits??
  • Details like the hours per week, how much unpaid overtime, salary, and other benefits.?
  • How do you want to fill the vacancy differently than the last time??
  • What personality, values and behaviours, knowledge or skills would make your team stronger than it is today??
  • What does progression truly look like? If there is none, this isn’t a negative, just be honest so we know the type of candidate to target.?

Part of our jobs as recruiters is to sell the company, it’s culture, opportunities and perhaps most importantly the senior team at the forefront of the business.??

If their time is too stretched to be an integral part of hiring for their team, this is a huge turn off to recruitment partners, not to mention, a waste of time.??
