Are you a Leader or a Dealer? This is why you need a Self-audit.

The past seven days have been particularly taxing for us at our organisation.
We encountered unexpected challenges when a few of our partners decided to pull out.
This forced us to take a step back and deeply reflect on the state of our leadership.
It became clear that leaders must conduct a thorough self-audit now, more than ever.
Are we genuinely leading in the way we intend?
Let's delve into some essential questions that every leader should ask themselves:
1. Which type of leader are you?
Could you take a moment to understand your leadership style?
Are you more supportive, directive, or perhaps somewhere in between?
Identifying your style allows you to leverage your strengths and address weaknesses effectively.
2. Do you set a good example for your followers?
Actions speak louder than words.
Ensuring that your behaviour aligns with the values you aim to instil in your team is essential.
Your team should be consistent in your actions.

3. Are you a leader or a dealer?
Leaders inspire and motivate, while dealers primarily manage and transact.
Strive to embody the qualities of the former.
Inspire your team by sharing your vision and actively working alongside them.
4. How can you improve?
Continuous improvement is a fundamental aspect of effective leadership.
Please take feedback from your team and peers and make the necessary changes based on their input.
Remember, leadership is a journey, not a destination.

7 个月Great post Ikechukwu Okoh! I firmly believe that even the best leaders still have a lot to learn. Each situation a leader steps into is uniquely different (similar to an ER doc walking into the ER each and every day). I look to enhance my leadership skills by taking classes or online seminars - many of which are free. Also when we fail to lead optimally in various situations take a step back and reflect what we could have done better and do that next time you are confronted with the same situation.

7 个月Great read! Actions defintely speak louder than words; your team will do what you do not what you say and they will always be a watered down version of you.. if you want to up the productivity, up your action as a leader. I kinda disagree on the point of are you a leader or a dealer ... Leaders are dealers of hope, I heard that from John C Maxwell and it stands very true as leaders we need to inspire and instill hope in our teams
