You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?

It really bugs me that the numbers on the keypad of the phone are arranged in opposite in order to the arrangement of numbers on my PC’s keypad (or my calculator).

How could this have been allowed to happen?!

Some research done by the phone company concluded that the configuration of the numbers on the phone helped eliminate dialing errors.  So, was there no standard to ensure the number arrangement on all keypads was the same? No.

In fact, when AT&T originally contemplated the design of their key pad, they called several calculator companies hoping they would share the research that led them to the opposite configuration.

To their astonishment, AT&T discovered that the calculator companies had conducted no research at all!

And that is why office workers today who regularly use the number pad on both their computer keyboard and their telephone are frustrated all day long – a lack of market research!

Please ‘Like’ if this is a pet peeve or yours, too!
