You know more than you think, follow that knowledge.
In August of 2019, I decided to attend the “Writing Workshop of San Francisco”. There were lots of different workshops that I went to and enjoyed, but the most important one for me was “Crafting an Irresistible Romance”.?
The workshop was one of my last so I was there with a new found writer friend, Joy. We had been talking about romance versus love stories during the lunch break so when the speaker, Adrienne Bell, confirmed romance novels MUST have a happily ever after (HEA) or happy for now (HFN) I felt quite dignified. The rest of the workshop continued in a similar vein where I knew the “answers” to questions simply based off having read romance novels for about 10 years at that point. I left that workshop with other attendees asking me questions about romance novels and the speaker even told me “Wow, you could have been leading this with me.”
You might be wondering, “How is any of this relevant to me?”
Well, whether you read romance or not the lesson remains — you know more than you might think. When you enjoy something, you absorb it. And even when you are new at something, your perspective adds to existing knowledge. There’s something beautiful about knowing you will always know more than someone else, which isn’t to say you are better than them, but to remind you of the value of you.??
If you’re like me, you might always feel like you need to learn more from others, that you aren’t an expert in your craft(s) because there are people who know more than you.?
I do not want to discourage anyone’s love of learning, instead I want to empower ourselves to remember we can also be experts in our own right.?
