Are you a Klingon?

If you know anything about Star Trek, you are aware of the Klingons. If not, Google image a Klingon and that will help with this quick share.
I use this phrase ("don't be a Klingon") to make fun of myself. My default is to make this face while listening to someone who is sharing information that requires focus or concentration. As you can see in my self-portrait, it's not exactly the kind of face we want during an interview, on a Zoom call, or at ANY time for that matter.
The challenge is that I have struggled with this realization for 20 years, or maybe more. I have to give credit to former direct report who shared this with me, and I'm forever thankful. She shared that I had a look that was not receptive or open when considering new or challenging information. It wasn't that I disagreed, it was how my face reacted as I listened.
THE LESSON - be aware of what your face is doing at all times.....ESPECIALLY, in the interview or meeting setting.
Good luck all you future happy faces....and don't be a Klingon. Although, Worf is my favorite character!

3 年I feel the need to do some pushups or bends and thrusts to appease you when you make that face. :-) Yikes. Thanks for the reminder to check your mug from time to time and smile.
