Can you imagine a football manager coaching his team in the live match but refusing to know the live score?
So why do so many businesses run without knowing the results until the end of the year?
That’s what you are doing if you don’t keep score.
By the end of the match, it’s too late to change your tactics, and it’s the same with your business year-end.
Good businesses keep a scorecard.
You don’t have to produce elaborate monthly management information, but you should know your important lead and lag KPIs
What are Lead and Lag KPIs?
Well, lead KPIs measure the things that drive your business forward, like the number of enquiries, conversion rates, or social media posts.
These measure the important actions that give you the results that you want.
To plan for the results you want, you set these actions.
The lag KPIs are things like turnover, profits, and cash flow, and they are the results of the actions monitored by the Lead KPIs.
If you achieve your Lead targets, you will achieve your Lag targets.
