Are you just scrolling or strategically growing?

With over 875 million members worldwide, #LinkedIn stands as the #1 professional networking site, offering unique and powerful opportunities for leaders looking to elevate their personal and professional brand.

I've been using LinkedIn for more than a decade now, leveraging it for career growth, discovering job opportunities, and expanding my professional network. The potential and benefits of this platform are underrated. Having just reached the Top 1% LinkedIn SSI ranking, here are some of my learnings on why it's worthwhile for any and every leader to enhance their personal brand on LinkedIn:

Establishing Your Personal Brand

Most of us use LinkedIn to like or share posts from our colleagues or the companies we work for. However, many hesitate to delve deeper and discuss why they are passionate about their roles or the organisations they represent. Is it a fear of misrepresenting the company’s message, or perhaps uncertainty about how to articulate the problem-solving nature of your products or services? Remember, your personal brand isn't just the company you work for; it's a reflection of your individual values, insights, and contributions.?

Engage Through Valuable Content

Don't just produce content for the sake of it, but produce intentional content that portrays you as you'd like to be portrayed. By employing the PAS (Problem-Agitation-Solution) framework, you can address real issues faced by your peers and customers and propose actionable solutions. This strategy not only demonstrates your expertise but also builds trust and loyalty among your connections, enhancing your influence and reach. For all of us our customers are on LinkedIn and they want to see and hear from you.

Finding the Right People

Most of us start a job and then connect with everyone in that organisation, and this goes on for most of our professional lives. But with over 875 million members, there is an opportunity to connect and share dialogue with countless others. Search for people based on their job titles so you're strategic about who you are connecting with, who sees your content, and whose content you can benefit from. Developing deep connections can turn contacts into customers, customers into advocates, amplifying your voice through their networks.

Problem Solving Shows Leadership

Regularly engaging in discussions and offering solutions to problems not only showcases your expertise but also your willingness to lead by example. Being seen as an active problem solver reinforces your role as a leader, making you the go-to person in challenging situations.

Authenticity Through Real-World Proof

‘Show, don’t tell’ should be a mantra for anyone building a brand. Share your successes, challenges, and lessons learned. Authentic storytelling not only enhances relatability but also fosters trust, as people we like to see and hear from people like us.

This is a continuing journey for me, and I’m spending the time every day learning from legends like Ruby Lee , Lara Acosta , Matt Lakajev and Justin Welsh , among many others.

But my lesson and encouragement to you is that building a strong personal brand on LinkedIn is more than a self-promotion tactic; it's a strategic approach to leadership in the modern workplace. By investing in your LinkedIn presence, you are not just crafting a narrative but also opening doors to new opportunities and collaborations that can propel both your personal and organisational goals forward.
